This Garnet cabochon is bezel-set in a Fine Silver Starburst Pattern with a carved and cast Sterling shank band.
Granulation is an ancient fusing process utilized for thousands of years by the Etruscans and Mycenaeans. I alloy 24k gold down to 22k and 18k and create tiny granules. I place these granules with a 000 paint brush and then carefully heat using a mouth torch to the point of fusing. Each sphere is connected by a tangent of metal creating a sleek and beautiful surface.
