This is a 3mm patterned band with small oval and small granules around a wavy center line. This is a cast version of a striking and fun band I originally made in fine silver using the process of Granulation that I then made a mold of, pulled a wax copy of and then cast using the lost wax process.
I can size this to your size specifications and cast in 14k yellow gold, 18k yellow gold or sterling silver.
I am also happy to make one in original granulation for you in your size in either 18k gold or Fine Silver. These take much longer to make but the process and result are lovely. Original granulated bands have a continuous pattern. The cast band’s pattern may no longer be continuous when the cast band is resized for you.
Granulation is an ancient fusing process utilized for thousands of years by the Etruscans and Mycenaeans as well as other cultures around the globe. I alloy 24k gold down to 18k gold and create tiny granules and sort them by size. Then I place these granules with a 000 paint brush and then carefully heat the piece using a mouth torch to the point of fusing. Each sphere is connected by a tangent of metal creating a sleek and beautiful surface, in this a case, a pattern made of slices from an oval ingot, a continuous meandering center line, and several sizes of my granules. I then make a mold and cut it for use, inject it with wax and use that wax copy to make your ring! I clean and polish the new metal ring and darken the deeper recesses with a patina so as to accentuate the unique pattern in the metal.
